Amazon.com Product Description Cycling improves your cardiovascular health, boosts the functioning of the heart and blood vessels, and decreases your risk of heart disease. Now you can enjoy all the benefits of cycling without spending a ton of money with the affordable InStride XL cycle from Stamina Products. Unlike most exercise bikes, the InStride XL cycle doesn't come with a seat. Instead, you sit in a standard dining room chair or lie on the floor, then insert your feet into the sturdy rubber straps. Once you're in, you can pedal in forward or reverse motion, with an adjustable tension knob that lets you vary your intensity and an electronic monitor that times your workouts. As an alternative, you can even rest the InStride XL on a table and pedal with your hands to experience a full-range upper body workout. Improving your cardiovascular health isn't the only benefit of cycling, of course. It also increases HDL (good cholesterol), reduces the amount of triglycerides in the blood, and helps lower blood pressure. And thanks to the dual-use pedals, you can improve your muscle strength in your legs, arms, shoulders, and back, depending on the configuration you choose. Other cycling benefits include increased flexibility without stressing the joints, improved digestion, better lung function, and a higher metabolism. The InStride XL cycle, which includes non-slip rubber feet, measures 19 by 12.25 by 15.25 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 9 pounds.

Exercising despite illness August 13, 2008 Sick Doc 38 out of 39 found this review helpful
As I suffer from a neurological disease that affects my motor function, I am not able to do much in the way of exercise. For this reason, I ordered this product. I find it quite useful. Although I know that I am not burning nearly as many calories per unit of time as I would on our elliptical machine, I am moving! I have not experienced much noise with my unit as some others have complained and am easily able to have a conversation or watch T.V. while I am cycling. I have noted that this product is easiest to use at a slight angle or semi-reclining position i.e. it is not easy to do while sitting upright at a computer, but easier while lounging back in an easy chair or on a couch. Overall, I am glad that I purchased this product. I have read that Mayo Clinic studies have shown that this type of mild exercise done frequently is even more effective than strenuous exercise done in small amounts.
Very Nice November 15, 2007 R. Lopez (PR) 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
I use it while watching tv and playing videogames. It gets very hot in the middle but other than that it works perfect.
Not your "normal" use December 16, 2008 Virginia H. Garton (Gordonsville, Va USA) 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
I recently purchased 2 of these for my assistant and I to use in our middle school library. After a few days, we moved them out from under out desks and out into the main part of the room. Immediately, we noticed several of our more reluctant readers would sit quietly and PEDAL while they were reading. I've noticed one particular young man has increased his reading dramatically when he is allowed to use the "bike thing", as they call it. I'm currently talking with my PTO to see if they will give me funds to purchase more. GREAT PRODUCT ! ! ! I did remove the timer simply b/c middle schoolers love to keep pushing buttons.
very pleased with this, amazing value February 27, 2009 Karen 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
I'm very pleased with this. It's an amazing value for $36.
It is extremely sturdy. I was thinking it might be bendable lightweight aluminum, but I doubt that I could dent this with a sledgehammer. And while it is easy to move around, it is not a piece of lightweight junk.
It is easy to assemble. The instructions looked daunting, but the nuts and bolts are all identical, and it rapidly became apparent that each leg gets attached to the main piece at three places, a t bolt screws into the top for tension control, the timer slips on, and presto, you're done.
Let me address a few things I read in the reviews that had me a bit worried before I bought it:
It does not slide for me on carpet. I spoke to their customer service, and the lady there said she places hers against a wall to prevent sliding.
There is a slight jerk in each revolution, but pushing down on the pedals with slightly more force than you might think you need fixes that. So it doesn't have the complete Zen quality of a real exercise bike, but what the heck, it's $36.
I asked her about squeaking, and she said two things. One is you can add oil by unscrewing the t bolt, adding oil, then putting the t bolt back, and the other is that sometimes if the bike has been used long enough, you will have to dial back the tension via the t bolt as it does tighten up and may squeak.
I find that the t bolt does control the tension well. It is not all or nothing, imho.
The size is very convenient, you can put it in the bottom of a closet easily.
This is a really excellent product for non-jocks who want to get in better shape, the elderly, etc.
Good value. September 2, 2008 EmmyL (Virginia USA) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I purchased this product as a replacement for the basic pedal exerciser model, which broke after about a year of use. This is much sturdier than the old one. A great benefit is that it slides far less on my hardwood floor. The timer is pretty cheap and nothing fancy, but, let's face it, if this is your primary piece of exercise equipment, that is exactly what you need. The size is also quite convenient for hiding it away when it's not in use.
I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to be able to do some exercise while watching TV, but doesn't want to put the time and money into getting more complex exercise equipment for their living room.
